If you’re about to restore your oral health with a root canal in Sacramento, California, recovery is very important. In fact, it’s so important that our experienced team is happy to give you the healing instructions you need. In order to recover after your treatment, we encourage you to do the following things:

Take prescribed medications

Many dentists and endodontists prescribe medications to their patients after root canal therapy. If this is the case for you, make sure you take the medication as recommended. If you do not have prescribed medication, you can take over-the-counter medication, like Advil and Motrin.

Avoid using that tooth

If your doctor has not filled or covered your tooth with a dental filling or dental crown yet, please avoid chewing with that tooth. If you use the treated tooth, your risks of contaminating or infecting the tooth again are severely high.

Brush and floss

It’s best to brush and floss your teeth like normal so you can keep your mouth clean and healthy. If you are concerned about brushing and flossing, please feel free to talk to your dentist for suggestions.

Rest

Resting is very important and we recommend taking it easy for at least 24 hours after your treatment. Resting will help you and your smile recuperate and heal. If your doctor recommends resting for a longer period of time, please do as he says.

Root canal therapy is a beneficial and needed treatment if your tooth’s root and pulp have become infected by an untreated cavity. During the appointment, your dentist will remove the infected areas of the tooth, will fill it with a special material, and will seal it with a dental filling or dental crown.
