As you prepare your goals for 2018, perhaps start with something simple: take better care of your teeth! This could save you discomfort and hassle. Of course, taking care of your teeth includes taking care of your toothbrush.

Be sure to choose a soft-bristled brush that is the right size and shape to reach all corners of your mouth. Choose soft bristle to avoid ripping and scratching of tooth enamel and gum tissues. Make sure to replace your toothbrush every 3 or 4 months, or more frequently if the brushes appear frayed or worn out.

To properly brush your teeth, place your brush at a 45 degree angle to your gums, and use short back-and-forth strokes to clean all the surfaces of your teeth. To clean the inner surfaces of the front teeth, place the brush inside the mouth perpendicular to the gum line, and use multiple up-and-down strokes against the entire inner surface of the tooth. Brush your teeth twice a day, preferably morning and night.

It is worth mentioning that toothpaste is also important. There are specially-formulated toothpastes for sensitive teeth, teeth whitening, and other specific tasks–talk with Dr. Steven J. Brazis to see which toothpaste is best for your oral health needs.
