Are your child’s teeth growing in? Are you not sure what to do to help your child? If so, our Steven J. Brazis, DDS dental team is more than happy to help you! We have tips that will help you keep your child safe and comforted. Some of the tips we have for you include:

Don’t try this at home:

-The manufacturers of amber teething necklaces claim that the stones on the jewelry release a pain-relieving substance that is absorbed into the bloodstream once it passes through the skin. However, there is no scientific evidence that this is true. The beads in the necklace also pose a choking hazard.

-Lidocaine is another product to avoid. This topical anesthetic can be poisonous to infants and young children. It can lead to seizures, brain damage, or even death.

Tried-and-true methods:

It helps to massage your child’s gums with your fingers—after you’ve washed your hands, of course. Just be careful while doing so—it’s natural for your child to bite your fingers.

Chill a spoon and then hold it to the sensitive area of the gums.

Under close supervision, let your child chew on a cold washcloth.

Put your child’s binky in the refrigerator before you give it to them. This will chill the pacifier and provide relief.

Let your child bite on a teething ring.
